  Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has dismissed claims by his Rivers State counterpart, Mr. Nyesom , to the effect that he was constructing the Aliade-Onu-Obarike-Ito-Otukpo and Makurdi-Naka-Adoka roads, describing it as a tissue of lies.   MTN has made a payment of 30 billion Naira ($98 million) to the Nigerian government in part settlement of a 330 billion naira fine imposed on the telecoms group for not disconnecting unregistered SIM cards. According to Reuters reports, an MTN source revealed on Thursday that the Arica’s largest telecoms company has already paid 80 billion naira of the total amount owed. The fine is due for payment in six instalments over three years.MTN Nigeria was originally fined $5.2 billion last October for failing to deactivate more than five million unregistered SIM cards, but the fine was reduced in a settlement that paved the way for MTN to list its subsidiary on the Nigerian Stock Exchange.Nigeria has been cracking down on unregistered SIM cards, concerned that they are used for criminal activity in a country fighting an insurgency by Islamist militant group Boko Haram.MTN, which operates in 20 countries, had set aside $600 million last year to pay the fine. A Nigerian pilot who works for Air Djibouti has become the first African pilot in history to fly solo around the world.Ademilola “Lola” Odujinrin completed the final leg of his historic journey Wednesday  afternoon, landing safely at Washington Dulles International Airport.The pilot completed the entire circumnavigation in a Cirrus SR22, stopping in more than 15 countries on five continents, returning to Washington DC, where his journey began back in September.

MORE cash believed to be part of the London-Paris Club loan refund has been found by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The US$86,546,526.65 was remitted into the account of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF). The account is said to have been depleted to about $17million as at the time the probe started. The EFCC is probing how the cash got into the account, who remitted it and for what purpose. “The cash was paid into the forum’s domiciliary account in GTB tagged: 0023577047 with sort code 058083215,” the source said, adding that the payment followed a November 21, 2016 memo on the remittance into the NGF’s account which was titled “Consultants fee”. German Engineering Federation has today ranked Nigeria as the fourth country with the most sales of soft drinks globally. The fact was revealed by Mrs Martina Claus, Head of Market Development, while speaking at the ongoing Third International Trade Exhibition on Agrofood, Plastics, Printing and Packaging in Lagos, reports NAN. She said that the statistics on soft drinks sales were sourced from the Euromonitor International, a global market intelligence publisher.
