Nigeria Ranks Fifth Largest Insurance Market In Africa

Despite the low insurance adoption, penetration and acceptance in the country, Nigeria’s insurance industry is ranked fifth in Africa. The top five insurance markets on the continent are said to have overall market share of 85 percent of premiums across Africa. General-Secretary of the African Insurance Organization (AIO), Ms Prisca Soares, speaking at a press conference after the launching of the second Africa Insurance Barometer at the just concluded 44th AIO Conference and General Assembly in Kampala, Uganda, said insurance market in the continent was still dominated by South Africa. The other major markets, she mentioned, include Morocco, Egypt, Kenya and Nigeria while the top five markets account for 85 percent of the total premiums. Kenya grew fastest in 2015 achieving a compound annual growth rate of slightly more than 10 percent from 2011 – 2015, Soares said. LASTMA Sacks 20 Over Corruption

By Evelyn Usman Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, has dismissed 20 of its officials over alleged corrupt acts ranging from extortion, misconduct to indiscipline. Twenty other officials were sanctioned over acts deemed not to be in consonance with the agency‘s rules and provisions of the Lagos State Civil Service, while 15 others were given letters of warning over their misdemeanour, as well as admonition to desist from any act that could be inimical to the image of the agency. Centre Honours 15 Candidates With 339 UTME Score

A 17-year-old candidate in the just concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, Patrick Delight, has been celebrated for scoring 339. The son of a retired teacher father and a mother who still teaches at the Lagos State Model College, Meiran , Lagos, was honoured on Friday at Adams College, Ajao Estate, Lagos, alongside 14 other candidates who scored above 300 in the UTME. Others include Yusuf Kehinde, 305; Yusuf Taiwo, 307; Deola Adejumo, 309; Aina Testimony, 311; Grace Agbokeye, 310; Ekpon Jessica, 311; and Sanusi Mubarak, 314. Nigerian Nursing Assistant Breaks Leg Of 98-year-old Patient, Leading To Death

A Nigerian nursing assistant has been arrested by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, after investigations revealed that he caused injuries that led to a 98-year-old woman’s death. According to Newnan police, the patient Edna Warren sustained a broken leg following contact with 43-year-old Hakim Ogunkunle on Tuesday. Warren was taken to Piedmont Newnan Hospital where she underwent emergency surgery but she died during the procedure. It was gathered that a staffer noticed swelling on Warran’s leg and notified a supervisor. When Ogunkunle was question, authorities said he told a story that was “inconsistent” with Warren’s injuries. However, after Ogunkunle’s story didn’t match the nurse’s account of what happened, Ogunkunle wrote a statement. In it, he said that he went into Warren’s room to get her ready for breakfast. He said that Warren became combative and tried to kick him. He wrote that he held her legs together to keep from being kicked and heard a “crack” from her leg and sa
