Suicide Watch: Rear Admiral Commits Suicide



Barely seven months after he was promoted from the rank of a commodore to a rear admiral, Daniel Teikumo Ikoli, an officer of the Nigerian Navy, has died in his residence in Apapa GRA, Lagos.He was said to have shot himself in the chest after firing two previous shots that hit the wall and the television set in his house. When THISDAY visited his house in Apapa, it was as quiet as a grave yard, as no soul was found there, although some of his neighbours said his body had since been removed and taken to the morgue.Initially, the navy had suspected it was an assassination attempt going by the deceased’s previous paranoia about assassination threats during his tenure as amember of the arms deal probe.However, after the police were invited and they did a sweep of the apartment and the scene of his death, preliminary investigations revealed that he had shot himself.

Nnamdi Kanu's Bail Conditions

The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Tuesday admitted the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, to bail on health grounds. In a brief ruling, Justice Binta Nyako said that she was convinced that Kanu was ill and needed more medical attention than the Nigerian Prisons was giving him. “The first defendant, Nnamdi Kanu, has appealed to the court for bail based on health grounds and it is only the living that can stand trial. “So I am minded to grant him bail so that he can attend to his health and face his trial alive,” Nyako said. She, however, ordered that while on bail, Kanu must not hold any rallies, grant any interviews or be in a crowd of more than 10 people. Nyako gave other bail conditions to include three sureties in the sum of N100 million each.
